What We Forget to Count and The Health We Missed Out On
Thanksgiving I am here for it!
Sickness follows those with a running tally of everything that has and is going wrong in their lives.
They would always make fun of my nose.
My Coach in high school said I was too slow.
I slipped in the shower last week.
I got sick and had a really high fever when I was 19.
I got hit by a car when I was 12, you can’t understand.
My kid talked back to me.
We missed the vacation because our daughter got sick.
My brother’s a liberal.
We took the vacation but the place we stayed at had mold in the bathroom.
The person next to me on the flight was coughing the entire time.
They kept bumping me, so I got zero sleep.
Everything is so expensive, I can’t get ahead.
I want to move but I can’t afford to.
My parents bought my sister a set of new luggage.
Safe to say we have become highly trained at remembering and rehearsing life challenges and how they have impacted our current life state.
We tally, we itemize, we highlight, we underline. We review.
But here’s the thing…this ledger of experiences is not enabling us to manifest the life we desire.
The one where the miracles of everyday life stack up faster than we could ever record.
My Life Ledger
I woke up today.
My eyes opened and…worked.
Just worked. No calibration, no warm-up cycle, just sight.
Light came in, shapes formed, color arranged itself.
I put my feet on the ground and they held me. I could feel the coolness of the hardwood floor.
My lungs were already breathing —crazy I know.
Zero effort on my part.
My heart?
That thing has beaten about 88,000 times since yesterday.
I ate breakfast because my mouth, jaw, salivary glands, esophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver, gallbladder, intestines—all showed up for work.
And speaking of work —
I have a full slate of humans who trust my judgment related to their health circumstance.
Talked about a life of privilege.
I drove to the grocery store (yes, gas in the tank and car operational), and the entire thing was full.
Over 40,000 items, arranged, stocked, cleaned, priced — all waiting for me.
Then someone scanned them, bagged them, wished me a good day.
Oh and then I spent $125 at Grocery Outlet, so they gave me a free turkey but I don’t eat Jennie-O meat, so I gave it to the next person in line.
I didn’t have to plant, harvest, package, or manufacture a single item I bought. No gloves, no shovel, no dirty hands or sore back.
I just showed up with money in hand (actually I didn’t even need money 💴, I paid with credit).
Yes, I (you likely do as well) live inside a miracle so constant it becomes invisible.
Want to shift the atmosphere of your home?
Want your nervous system to settle down?
Want to create opportunity for your reflux and IBS to become a historical matter?
Want to finally gain control of your eating routine?
Gratitude is the first domino. Go wild with it.
